COLOR IS POWER

March Showers April Flowers?
Groundbreaking.

March seems like a meteorologist’s happy place – all the weather, all the time. One minute it’s sunny Spring, and the next minute it’s snowing on your commute home. It’s warm enough to wear a t-shirt, and cold enough to need your down parka. What to do?

How do I keep my mood elevated and happy and energized with such crazy input from the environment? Color maximalism! If my raincoat is rainbow, and my suit is neon disco, and my boots are waterproof sunshine yellow, I’ll feel good on the outside and inside.

But that’s not all! It’s two for one! That’s right, if you dress to keep your mood elevated and your body happy, other people will take notice and attribute their happy mood to your happy choices. Sounds like a win-win to me.

It’s true that there is so much in life that’s completely out of our control – the weather, our commute, other people’s opinions and behaviors. My secret sauce for life? Focusing on what I can control – what I wear, who I surround myself with, and most important, who and what gets my time. Hard to do, and takes a lot of practice. Join me – life should be an intentional colorful celebration every day. That’s my goal, and I hope you agree with me.

This month I’m introducing you to three vibrant color maximalists. Andrea Popescu is a color specialist who creates looks based on her brilliant color theory style. Khalid Thompson is a vivid artist known for layering saturated hues with a graphic precision that feels both disciplined and exuberant. Mitchell Craig, has created an intensely saturated and unique series of paintings, “Sweater Girls,” as an homage to the history of women and fashion in America’s 1950’s.

Three very different approaches to the same philosophy. Color is a powerful force for inspiring emotional and physical reactions. Let’s use this power to make the world a more meaningful and joyous experience.
